Episode February: A New Diet


January is routinely seen as a month of new beginnings, for starting over.  New year, new goals, new adventures.....new you.  Despite the cold weather (for some of us), we wake up a little more chipper, a little more hopeful that THIS year, THIS time, we're going to do it right, damn it.

We give ourselves a few days to ease into our list of new rules and regulations.  Splitting the difference seems like a good idea.  You didn't get up on time, but you only snoozed 3 times instead of 5.  I didn't go to the gym four times this week, but I went twice.  We only wore sweatpants out of the house on Tuesdays and Thursdays rather than never.  Can't be too harsh on ourselves right at first.  It's hard work being fabulous.

But what happens when it's January 29th and it seems like every thing you wanted to change has actually regressed?  There's so much stress to do everything right that we become paralyzed and nothing gets done.  

Well, you can do whatever you want.  Come on, people!  The year is almost a twelfth over!  We (just my roommate and I, not the collective 'we' mind you) just need to be punished.

Super Scary February is a 4 week intensive program designed to tackle some goals that we've been having trouble taking seriously.  Specifically we're going to take on nutrition, weight loss, and exercise.  Should we fail in February, or lose sight of some other goals, there may have to be a Moderately Merciless March.  But I can't think about that right now.

The Rules (For Now):
1. If it tastes good, don't eat it.
2. If you're not exhausted, move faster.
3. If you're not hungry, stop eating.
4. If you're not working, you're working out.
5. If there's cheese in your hand, put it back.

Hopefully, we will have only broken less than 3 of these by the next post....
